From the Columbus (OH) Dispatch:
Union County Coroner: Bicyclist died of natural causes
A passerby found Todd Scoles, 48, of Marysville, in a ditch along Middleburg-Plain City Road near Rt. 161 in the southern part of the county about 4:45 p.m. Scoles was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital of Union County a short time later.
Union County Coroner David Applegate said an autopsy today showed no injuries from a bicycle crash that would have caused Scoles’ death. He had some fractured ribs and road rash but nothing that would have proved fatal. He was wearing a helmet.
The State Highway Patrol’s crash reconstruction unit was at the scene Sunday to help determine what may have happened and troopers said there was no evidence of any foul play or of a hit-and-run crash.
Applegate said Scoles’ family donated his heart, so a report on its health isn’t yet available but everything points to a natural death.
Authorities are still trying to pinpoint a timeline, so they are asking anyone who saw a bicyclist in that area Sunday to call the Marysville post of the State Highway Patrol at 937-644-8811
Scoles was an associate pastor at Marysville Grace Brethren Church.
