Grace Community Church of Seal Beach, California (Don Shoemaker, pastor), observed a moving “Day for Remembering” the 9/11 attacks and also remembered the victims of Katrina in words, prayer and offerings.
The remembrance was held on the church lawn during the second of the church’s three services this past Sunday. The Orange County Fire Station across the street from the church building participated in the service with a flag raising and the ringing of a fire truck bell to remember the firefighters lost on 9/11.
The service was attended by more than 500 members of the church and community.
Featured speakers were Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and Fire Department Battalion Chief J.J. McMasters. Grace Church Pastor Don Shoemaker spoke from texts in the book of Lamentations and called everyone to use these events to re-examine their life priorities and renew their love for God and for their neighbors.
The remembrance raised $7,000 for disaster relief and $1,500 for a firefighter’s benevolent fund.
