Services will be held in Rittman, Ohio, tomorrow, Saturday, April 22, for Carl Jentes, father of Grace Brethren pastor, Mike Jentes. He died April 10 in Long Beach, Calif. A second service will be held May 7 in Long Beach. Carl, who was a long-time member of the Grace Brethren Church, Rittman, Ohio (Bud Olszewski, pastor), often attended national conference with his late wife, Pat. He had recently joined the Los Altos Grace Brethren Church (Phil Helfer, pastor) in Long Beach, Calif. His obituary appears below.
Carl Jentes, 80, of Long Beach, Calif., formerly of Rittman, Ohio, died Monday, April 10, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Friends may call Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Rittman Grace Brethren Church (44 S. First Street). Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Bud Olszewski officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held at the Los Altos Grace Brethren Church (6565 Stearns St.) in Long Beach, Calif., on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Rittman Grace Brethren Church, 44 S. Carl was born November 15, 1936, in Savannah, Ohio, to Arthur and Martha (Hopkins) Jentes.
He married Patricia A. Flory on August 27, 1972. She died on August 25, 2010.
Carl retired from Morton Salt in 2001 after 34 years. In retirement, he was a crossing guard for Rittman Schools until 2010. He was a longtime member of Rittman Grace Brethren Church and became a member of Los Altos Grace Brethren in Long Beach, Calif., in the last year. Carl was also was a member of the Rittman Historical Society and called on many family and friends from church, the community, and his Wooster High School graduating class of 1954.
Carl will be deeply missed by children, Michael (Mindi) Jentes of Long Beach, Calif., and Andrew (Sharon) Jentes of Gallatin, Tenn.; grandchildren, Kayla, Korey, Kevin, Katja, and David Jentes; brothers, Donald Jentes, of Hemet, Calif., Robert “Bob” (Janice) Jentes of Wooster, Ohio, Luther (Connie) Jentes of Woodlawn, Tenn., and Stanley (Karen) Jentes and Earl (Robin) Jentes both of Wooster, Ohio; and sister, Roberta “Bobbi” (Jentes) Mason of Clovis, Calif.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Patricia, and sister-in-law Sylvia Jentes.
