Grace Brethren’s Lontrelle Diggs is The Star’s Offensive Player of the Year
Through all the success, through all the hard yards earned and the touchdowns scored for the team, there inevitably was a price to pay.
Come Saturday morning, the simple act of getting out of bed felt like a climb up Everest.
“I’d be pretty sore,” Lontrelle Diggs says with a wry smile. “I’d get up and go to school and come to school for the film and lifting sessions. Whatever part of my body wasn’t too sore, I’d lift with that.”
The Grace Brethren High senior running back, stout, sturdy and compact like a mini-fridge, was a powerful presence in the Lancers backfield for two memorable seasons. As a senior, Diggs was as relentless as “The Terminator.”
His hard-charge running style piled up a county-best 2,507 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns, and was the catalyst in the Lancers’ historic season.
