Grace Brethren cancels football season, citing insufficient numbers
Grace Brethren High’s football program, with a string of achievements that includes five appearances in Southern Section championship games in the past six seasons, will not be participating in the revamped spring season.
The school announced it will not play any of its three scheduled games in April against Marmonte League opponents, beginning with what would have been its first game Saturday vs. Calabasas High.
Principal Scott Nandor released the decision via a news release Saturday, citing insufficient numbers to play any of its three games.
“After a long and careful evaluation, Grace Brethren High believes it is best to cancel our varsity football games this year,” the statement said. “As we prepare for the season, we are left with less than 15 healthy varsity players. Therefore, for the safety of our athletes, we will not put a team on the field.”
