Grace Brethren takes another step up in football playoff divisions
The Grace Brethren High football team keeps rising faster than the body count in “Game of Thrones.”
CIF-Southern Section Division 8 champions in 2017, the Lancers were elevated to Division 4 last fall. Yep, they won that title too.
With the impending release of the CIF-SS playoffs divisions for the 2019 fall campaign, Grace Brethren knew it was destined to continue the up and up. Turns out, it’s new placement is Division 3.
The fall playoffs divisions, revealed by the Southern Section on Friday, scores Grace Brethren at No. 25 among Southland football programs via the CIF-SS’ points rating system.
The Lancers missed moving up to the combo Division 1/2 division by a single spot. The CIF-SS’ top 24 teams, which includes Oaks Christian School and Calabasas High, comprise the top bracket.
Grace Brethren coach Josh Henderson is fine with next fall’s placement, but does wonder about the future. The Lancers will graduate a top senior class this spring, and another a year from now. Grace Brethren’s school enrollment this year is listed as a modest 305 students.
