This morning, Phil Sparling, executive director of the Charis Fellowship, sent information regarding the Equality Act (HR5) which is currently before the U.S. Senate. He is encouraging people to contact their senators and ask them to vote against this bill. Phil’s letter and a link to additional information are included below.
Dear Charis Leaders,
As I’m sure you know, there is a piece of legislation passing through our halls of congress that, if passed, will greatly impact our culture and the ministries of Jesus Christ. HR5 or The Equality Act has passed the House and is now in the Senate. It is expected to be voted upon within the next week or two.
I have asked the Charis Social Concerns Committee to put an informational piece together to both inform people about the bill and to encourage them to contact their Senators and ask them to vote ‘no’. The PDF linked below is a summary of why this bill is problematic. For those who want to read the bill itself I have also included a link at the end of that document to the entire text of the most recent version of this bill.
Thank you Charis Social Concerns Committee members for putting this together for our leaders.
I am encouraging all Charis leaders to be informed, to inform their congregations, and encourage as many people as possible to contact their Senators and ask them to vote against supporting this bill.
Just FYI, below I have included an example of a short note I sent to my Senator.
Thank you for being on the front lines of culture and using our freedoms to stand up and speak into situations like this
Blessings
Phil Sparling
Charis Executive Director
EXAMPLE ONLY:
Dear Senator,
Thank you for your service of our country and to my community. I believe you are God’s appointed person for such a time as this. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I am writing to you today to ask that you NOT support HR5: The Equality Act. I believe this piece of legislation will have negative impacts on the freedoms and rights of women and remove privacy protections for our nation’s children. This legislation will impact both private sectors and the public arenas of our entire culture. It will also set aside our historic freedom to follow my faith and my conscience as an American citizen. Please do all you can to defeat this legislation.
Again, thank you for your public service and know that I am praying for you to have the strength and wisdom to fulfill your God appointed position of being my Senator. May His love and grace cover you and your family.
