BG Police: Church set on fire on Thursday morning
Bowling Green Police and Fire and the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating an arson that happened early Thursday morning at Grace Brethren Church on S. Enterprise in Bowling Green.
Members of the community say they’re shocked that this happened.
The back porch of the church has wooden beams that were singed by fire.
The wood was flame retardant, however, and the rest of the church is absolutely fine.
People in the community are still upset though.
Lucas Smith was getting his hair cut at the barber right next door to the church.
He’s a senior at Bowling Green and says he likes living here and that it’s mostly a safe place.
“I think that Bowling Green is a really tight-knit community,” said Smith. “For the most part I always feel safe and welcomed wherever I go.”
Smith says he was jumped before and the incident at the church reminds him that bad things do happen.
“This happening reminds me that there are always things that can happen that you don’t expect,” said Smith.
Police say the fire was set with some type of accelerant.
Anyone with information in the case should call the Bowling Green Police.
