Each year, CE National provides a ministry trip over spring break to Urban Hope Training Center for Grace College students. This trip fulfills the student’s Cross Cultural Field Experience in order to qualify to graduate from the college. This year, over 40 participated in an incredible week of learning, ministry, and hands on experience in living on mission. The following article was written by Lauren Williams, one of the students on the trip.
Day one of spring break: 35 Grace students piled into a blue school bus for a 14-hour trip to Urban Hope Training Center in Philadelphia, Pa. Their motives for coming on the trip to Philadelphia were varied: some students chose it to fulfill a youth ministry requirement; others liked the trip’s missions-focus; still others had signed up simply to meet a graduation prerequisite.
After finishing a tough session, a few students were reluctant to give up their week of relaxation for a mission’s trip. But God knew that the spiritual benefits they would receive were much more important than simply enjoying time off from school.
Team leader Timothy Kurtaneck (TK) explained the reason behind Grace College’s trip requirement for students: “. . . [it’s] wanting people to be exposed to other cultures. I want to see people exposed to ministry and to people who are living on mission for Christ and reaching out to people, and I knew that was going on through Urban Hope.”
