Dear son,
…so while I still have the opportunity I want to take a few minutes to summarize in writing the values and life lessons I have attempted to live out before you and most want to pass on to you…
I thank the Lord that with my many mistakes, I have been able to see you come to know and love the Lord. I need to point out that your love for Jesus is all His work but He has been gracious enough to allow me to help guide you in your search for truth. I know you watched me as Jesus worked in my life and you questioned if I really believed what I was teaching you…and you came to know that Jesus was real in my life and He was inviting you join in fellowship with Him. You can’t imagine the joy I felt when I knew you had given your heart to Him.
As you move through life always remember that He is walking with you, and those around you are watching you and they are trying to answer the question, “does he really believe what he is saying.” There are so many—so many who don’t know Him. So many that He is calling and as He used me to help guide you, He will use you to express the joy of Christ to those around you.
Attempt to always be aware of His presence in your life as He usually uses other people to guide others to Him. He prepares the heart but He also wants you tell his message to those He sends you. Also, remember He can use anything you say—the only words He can’t use are the ones that are never spoken. Therefore, always be aware that the next person you meet may be the one He is placing before you. He prepares the hearts and then allows you to be a part of welcoming a new believer into the family. As I leave the church each time, I try and glance up at the message written across the sanctuary: You are entering your mission field. It is a reminder that we should always be “on mission.”
Son, I implore you, always be on mission, always ready to share Jesus wherever you go.
I love you son. Love God, love others,
Dad
