Sophia Berger, the daughter of Sam and Betty Baer, sends along this update on the mold remediation project at her parent’s home. The Baers had suffered the devastating effects of toxic mold in the retirement home they recently purchased. (See Help Needed as Baers Face Mold Removal and Remediation.) The update comes from son, Mike, who is overseeing the remediation process
Thanks to all the generous and sacrificial donations from family and friends, we have exceeded our original goal of $15,000! Several gifts were sent outside of the GoFundMe page, and we are now around $16,500. However, there is one more additional cost that was not calculated into the project: the need to replace the windows because they are part of the water/mold problem. This adds about $2,500 to the total cost of the project, and means that we lack just $1,000 more to meet the extra need.
We thank God that the remediation process is finished. Drywall has been torn out, carpet and flooring removed, the remaining walls have been sprayed and sealed, and a new HVAC has been purchased and installed. (It could not be salvaged since mold was all throughout the A coil.) The house was retested for mold and the results came back clear! New flooring will be laid down starting next week, and after that, new drywall. We are so grateful for the kindness and support that you have poured out upon our parents. Sam and Betty feel very loved and see that they have not been forgotten. Currently they are living with Bambie (oldest daughter) until their home is ready for them to go back. We can’t thank you all enough for your help in getting this taken care of so quickly! You are all amazing! Sam and Betty (and the rest of us) were blessed beyond words and at times moved to tears. What a wonderful gift to have God’s people surround them in such a beautiful way during this time of need!
