Waynesboro Grace Brethren Church presents a Christmas program every year on the Sunday before Christmas to give people an opportunity to join with others in celebrating Christmas, said Larry Weber, the church’s pastor.
This year’s program is named “Nunc Dimittis,” which are the opening words (in Latin) of Simeon’s song of praise when the infant Jesus was presented in the Temple, Weber said.
It is one of the canticles of Christmas, taken from Luke 2: 25-35.
“Christmas programs expose people to the truth and reality of what Christmas is, which is God’s gift for eternal life and the promise of living forever,” said Weber. “Christmas programs educate, teach and explain things to people. They give people an opportunity to worship, which is what the shepherds did when they saw the Christ child who was announced by the angels — they were astonished and told everyone what they saw.”
