“Run to Remember” Scheduled Again in West Kittanning
After a year off, a local 5K race through the streets of West Kittanning to remember the effect of September 11, 2001 returns this year.
And, ironically, will race on the 15th anniversary of the memorial namesake.
Grace Brethren Church Pastor Larry Edwards said a group of parishioners are responsible for coordinating the eighth-annual race – which began in 2007.
“This really involves a lot of people in our church,” Pastor Edwards said. “Every year, we have a committee working on this. It’s not just one person – we probably get 30 people involved in this.”
Pastor Edwards said there will be ‘tweaks’ made to help the 5PM event run smooth Sunday September 11, but looked forward to building on what was already established.
“It starts in front of our church on Arthur Street and goes five kilometers throughout the borough – about 2.7 miles – and ends up in front of the church again,” Pastor Edwards said.
