Worthington Christian tops Newark Catholic
PICKERINGTON — The most difficult decision Worthington Christian coach Tammi Evans had to make last night might have been prodding her players to end the celebration and head to the locker room after a Division IV regional semifinal.
Evans didn’t want to pull the plug on what looked to be a block party on hardwood. Students and fans kept walking on to the court to embrace their players and talk about one of the biggest victories in team history.
Many Warriors were in disbelief after a 53-50 victory over Newark Catholic in which their pressure forced 25 turnovers and quick feet produced a handful of easy baskets in beating the defense down the floor.
Worthington Christian (21-6) will attempt to reach the state tournament for the first time since 2001, playing Waterford in the championship game on Saturday.
